Free Craft Club thanks to Health Lottery Funding

Derbyshire charity receives grant from money raised by HealthCalm to help local people

A Long Eaton-based charity that uses art to help people has received a £20,192 grant from money raised by HealthCalm through The Health Lottery.  The funding will enable The Long Eaton Art Room charity to develop a new craft club for people living in a small local community on the Petersham Estate.

Starting in August 2015 Long Eaton Art Room will be working with a local group of people providing a weekly craft club aimed at increasing the numbers of friends people have in their immediate neighborhood, breaking down barriers, learning new skills and feeling better about where they live.  Sessions will be free with all materials provided.

Charity manager Josie Harrington, said: “This grant gives us to opportunity to work with many people who haven’t done any arts and crafts since leaving school and in some cases ever.  We will be expanding our work in the community and helping people get to know their neighbours in a safe supported atmosphere where they can chat and craft over a cup of tea.  I myself know first-hand how much difference arts and crafts can make to people’s lives, the Long Eaton Art Room helped me get through a difficult time and I enjoy helping others in return.”

The group will meet every Friday morning 9.30-11.30 to fit in with school run times.  The club will be free for all to attend as long as they live on one of the streets specified on our flyer.  We hope that the club will give people the opportunity to meet others who live in their neighbourhood, make new friends and learn some new crafts over a cup of tea and a chat.

The sessions will start in August 2015 and run until March 2017

If you are interested in attending the craft club please contact Josie Harrington on 0115 9461661 or email info@leartroom.co.ukMake It In The Community for facebook
